Our Guinea Pigs - Bruce and Roy

Bruce and Roy are our much-loved school guinea pigs and very important members of the Bitterne family! They are part of our approach to supporting wellbeing, responsibility and belonging across the school.

Each week, Bruce and Roy spend time with a different year group, giving children the opportunity to help feed, care for and look after them. Caring for our guinea pigs encourages children to be gentle, responsible and considerate, while spending time with animals can also provide a lovely opportunity for calm, connection and conversation.

When the weather is good, Bruce and Roy particularly enjoy a morning trip out to the school gate, where they can often be found welcoming children and families as they arrive.

At weekends, they head home with Mrs Gear, our SENDCo, who makes sure they are thoroughly looked after before another busy week at Bitterne!

Bruce and Roy may be small, but they make a big contribution to wellbeing and happiness in our school community.
